Kings, Gods & Sinatra Poem by Leah Ayliffe

Kings, Gods & Sinatra

Rating: 0.5

Elvis once told me
We can’t go on together with suspicious minds,
And we
Can’t build our dreams on suspicious minds.
He is the king
But I don’t know how to tell you
‘cause you keep building your tower to nowhere
When really, everything is round
whether its you, me, you, them, us
The questions come
They always do
Uncertainty is the only certain thing in this world
My world
I get the sense that there are so few
Who see the roundness
The cycle, circle, no concrete line
Unlike those who see the fast life
Not live fast, see fast, forward motion
When the slow days are really the best days
To live fast
Like me
And sometimes you.
Well sometimes I find you, who like me, see these things
Think these thoughts
The more I breathe here, the less scared I become
I used to dream of heaven
I wanted to fly, always to fly
Away, into the universe.
beside the stars
Now I don’t mind
being here
on the ground
I found paradise on earth
I walk around it, sometimes in deep melancholy
Sometimes bliss
The Garden of Eden is not so far,
How many times has it been removed
distorted
in the mind.
I visit it often,
It’s good to know the devil lives there too
It’s good to know
I am in love with the idea that Eve saved us all
Because it is good to know
Like God knows
Sorrow is precious & sorrow is divine
And it goes around, round, round
A mystical vision of a carousal
Like the angelic sound of Sinatra singing
“That’s life
I don’t let it, let it get me down
‘cause this fine old world, it keeps
Spinnin’ round”
Everything is round my dear.
