Lady M - Poem by Brian Bwesigye

I know her for a lady
By signs that never fail
Her dress neither inviting nor showy
Her cheeks welcoming with dimples
A babe with a way to make
And a life to live

I know her for a lady
By certain signs today

She met her father on the street
Off came her wig
My door was shut, she waited there
Until I heard her knock
She took the bundle from my hand
And when I dropped the pen
She sprung to pick it up for me
This Lady M

She thinks before herself
She serves those who accept
For in whatever company
The manners make the lady
At ten, twenty or thirty, the same
Her manners tell the lady
By signs that never fail.
