Lakeport Returns Poem by Dakota Ellerton

Lakeport Returns

This feeling in the back of my throat
drops to my stomach
my head spins
I lose balance
I should be relieved, I am not
I should be excited, I am not
I should be ready, I am not
so many feelings you have stirred up
so many pressures in your return
at your own doorstep
the moon shinning behind you
I can not reach for the pain in my heart
tell it to cease
I can not look you in the eye
and tell you to leave my mind
my thoughts, always occupy you
not you, but the memory of you
of who you were, and what we've done
what you've done
I can not take a step back
and breathe calmly
never will I deny
that I once loved you
