Lamentation Of The Prophet’s Wife Poem by P K Joy

Lamentation Of The Prophet’s Wife

For the rest of the world
you were a very great prophet.
For your greatness, people
used to bow and touch your feet
They gathered like pearls
your words of wisdom
And are waiting to see you
in God’s eternal kingdom.
I had never realized
that you were so great
For, my world and yours
were a wide expanse apart.
My demands from you
were of an obdurate worldly wife,
While you lived as a seer
seeking the meanings of life
These two clashed often
and made loud noise.
With sober words you many times
tried to make me wise.
But I refused correction
and loathed to mend my ways
And pained you. Earned your wrath,
by my stupid choice.
I nagged you day and night
and made your life miserable
I knew not the folly of my acts.
My loss is not retrievable.

After your death your admirers
are feeding me in your name.
They say, that your great soul
will be pleased with the same.
I wish I had given you
a fraction of others’ regard.
Then you wouldn’t have died
as a man destined to be sad.
They say that on the judgment day
you will be in God’s jury.
There, will you give me a chance to say
‘forgive me, I’m sorry’.
