Last night I dreamed that you were here,
Your beauty filled my eyes,
My arms enfolded you, my dear,
I did not hear your lies.
We climbed together to the Moon,
We danced around the Sun,
But I awoke, my love, too soon
And found our love had gone.

We were together but a year
And then you broke my heart.
I found that though we two were near
Our thoughts were far apart.
I thought of no-one else but you,
You were my only one,
But in your heart you were untrue
And now, my love, you're gone.

I cannot face the thought of life
Without you by my side.
You were my own beloved wife
But now, from me, you hide.
You turned your heart away from me,
You sent me from your side
And you again I'll never see.
I wish that I had died.
