Last Week For You Poem by Casey Gochnour

Last Week For You

If you were to die next week, what would you do?
Would you tell everyone you know,
Or keep everything on the down low?

If you were to die next week, where would you go?
Would you grab your family and friends,
Hoping to spend every moment until the end?

Because you know they would, they’d do everything,
Laugh, love, hug, sing,
Would you sleep at all? Would you keep them all awake?
Knowing that every second is your whole life at stake?

Would you confess all of your love to the person on your mind?
The very person that leaves your heart blind?
Would you reminisce in every kiss, and always telling them this,
“You were the one person on my mind when I read this.”

And you’ll show them the poem, and then they would think,
How desperate they would be if they were on the brink.
Who is the person that you are now thinking about?
Who is the person you couldn’t live without?

Tell me, give me their name.
Give me the name of which life wouldn’t be the same,
Now tell me, in your last week, what would you do?
What would they do to show you that they love you?

Would it be worth it, to know you had a week to spend?
To know every kiss leads to a dying end?
You would cry every night and kiss their lips with tears,
You would face every moment and tear down every fear.

In a moment you would realize a week wasn’t enough,
You need more than a week to give all of your love.
To so many people, so many things,
To all of the wonderful things that life brings.

But it’s too late now, your time is done,
Your end is coming, this week finally won.
You cry because it’s over, and you wish it could be forever,
Because you know if you could, it would end never.

But wait, what’s this?
There’s news of a dismiss.
Your sickness is gone,
They were wrong all along.

So what do you feel, now that you know,
That if you had your last moments, you’d know where to go?
Who you would see, who you would miss?
Who you would spend your life with,
And that very last kiss.
