Lay Me Down Poem by Myrtle Thomas

Lay Me Down

Lay Me Down

you pick the place.....to lay me down
where peace is prevalent
and hate can't be found
somewhere that has fertile soil.... fresh and flowers gay

reflections on mirror clear from vapors breath
and lips full red pouted one last time
eyes that saw the day ....closed now willingly.....with stare
cold to touch the furnace flame lays bare

songs of Sweet Bye And Bye fill the empty ear
hands like statue hold nothing more
possessions stay dormant without a single care
dresses hang never minded in closet over there

lay me down in meadow beneath clover flower
where beauty still blooms....... and stars hang in the sky
no morbid thought nor deed for property is valid anymore

would you kiss my cheek of porcelain
and leave me lying there?
to forget all of the memories of holding hands
toward our bed so fair

linger for a time as they lay me down somewhere
remind yourself daily of how our flower bloomed with tender care
the wind will touch you darling..... as my lips softly have

then smell the pretty lilacs as long ago we did.
