Learning From The Aborigines Poem by Justin Gildow

Learning From The Aborigines

Rating: 5.0

Hazy sunlight
Diesel and dust

I've never seen the outbacks of Australia look so pretty
Even if all I see is dust and desert

The waves meet and greet the shore
And at times
The sights and sounds are what make life living for

The aborigine farmers let their kids play with the bullroarers
As I look out at the distance at Warakurna

I'm learning from the aborigines

Being given a bullroarer to swing
And far away from I can see the people dance and sing
Shade and flashes of Midnight Oil flood not only my mind but theirs
We're all on a natural high
Our spirits are staying in the air

So I'm given a didgeridoo
And I'm a part of the band
And it's a dream come true
With the didgeridoo in my hands
I look at the people with a fiery passion in my eyes
As I put my spirit into what I do

I send a message from my eyes to the aborigines
Thank you for the many blessings and lessons
