Leave That Slave Ship Poem by Cynthia Buhain-baello

Leave That Slave Ship

Our land was conquered
And our people made slaves.
In history remembered,
Here walked the brave.

Enslaved and deceived
Until our fathers learned,
Freedom is not received
In battles, it is earned.

We may not have slave ships
And our color is brown,
But it is Hope that keeps
The identity we own.

This fight is for always
This war has no end.
Poverty binds our days
And the world is no friend.

But we fight as a people
Set free from the past,
Perhaps you will be able,
If you leave that ship to dust.
