Let Dogs Delight To Bark And Bite Poem by Isaac Watts

Let Dogs Delight To Bark And Bite

Rating: 4.2

Let dogs delight to bark and bite,
For God hath made them so;
Let bears and lions growl and fight,
For 'tis their nature too.
But, children, you should never let
Such angry passions rise;
Your little hands were never made
To tear each other's eyes.

Isaac Watts wrote many hymns during his lifetime, including some that are still sung at my church these days, among them 'He died! The Great Redeemer Died', 'O God, Our Help in Ages Past', 'Praise Ye the Lord', 'Sweet is the Work', and my favorite of all his songs: 'Joy to the World'. This poem is rather simple and is of course intended for children.

Human is an unique species in the kingdom of animals. Though animal instincts exist in human he has the power to observe restraint.The poet has brought this to the notice of children too and told them to never let angry passion rise; your little hands were never made to teat each other's eyes.
