Let My People Go! Poem by Cynthia Buhain-baello

Let My People Go!

Vile corruption!
You're so entrenched
In power tendrils
Your tentacles have tied Justice
And strangled Freedom so-
Let my people go!

Callous Greed!
You bleed my country dry
Of Her people's wages
And make them slaves
You think we do not know?
Let my people go!

Plastic Religion!
Your hypocrisy blinds
Deceives my countrymen
With your lifeless images
Empty rites and traditions
Falsehood in robes!
Evil's gone so low -
Let my people go!

Your chains have bled our wrists, our lips
But this pen writes
It will not dry
In silence cowered
Nor fear cold bars
And prison walls
The ink will flow -
Let my people go!
