Let The Lights Come On Poem by Kenneth Umunna

Let The Lights Come On

Let the lights come on
There is someone in the money house
He wasn’t there the day before
Why are the lights not in use?
We know he is one of us
He knows his way around

Let the lights come on
Their trade has gone so ill
It is now man for the money
His life’s fate they spell
We know he is one of us
His thoughts are odd today

Let the lights come on
Our yams are leaving their barns
They speak of loneliness
Their mates have been away so long
They remember they are one of them
And wish they come back home

Let the lights come on
We want to salt the dish
We want it enjoyed today
Tomorrow we know nothing about
You know you are one of us
This dish could be your fill

Let the lights come on
Our lads need to learn
They cannot use the shells
Lest they lose their sight
You know you are one of us
Their eyes are what we will use
