Let Us India Make Poem by Madathil Rajendran Nair

Let Us India Make

Rating: 5.0

A cruel taxi driver in Mumbai
Forced a Muslim woman
Out of his vehicle
For she was in labour
Providence had it that
She meandered into a Hindu temple
Of Lord Ganesh
Gave birth to a yelling
Full-throated Indian babe
Assisted by female devotees
Who had thronged the place
News says the child was named Ganesh

Another news items blares
Badly needed space was granted
At a Hindu temple in Mumbai
For Muslims to pray
On the day of Eid Al-Adha

Both incidents are in order
That is the way the world should be
No matter what brainless crooks say
Yet why is it that so much is said
About what every man should do
To his fellow human
And why does it become big news

When someone repairs a broken sparrow
Or pauses to sit beside
A dying cat to pray
Or rescues a stray dog from a well
All unnoticed, unreported

Man has it in him
A God that expresses often
In an elating empathy
May such men
Hold their hands together
And do an India make
Others will sure join
For elation is everyone’s like
In sheer tears of joy

Let them sing Vande Maataram*
Children born to a mother
Spanning miles and miles
Of beautiful earth
Enriched by the Ganges
Her eyes fixed on the sky
Of stars and galaxies
Listening for eons and eons
To the songs of universal love

Make India, make India
You sons of India
We are born at a Ganesha mosque
Or is it a church or a Jain temple
A gurudwara, it is all the same
Providence has it so
Lucky we remain
Singing Vande Maataram
In unison
As the dumbfounded stars listen

I am not a fan of patriotism, but this was a wonderful poem in acknowledging that all men should be brothers despite religion or nationality and that compassion to all living things is a virtue. Marvelously written and to the principles, I say; AMEN! Thank you

Verily, unconditional, universal love is the basis of compassion, humanity and virtue. Loved reading and commenting......10

A poem imbued with patriotic fervour and an exhortation for a classless, caste less society of universal brotherhood! Indians were once reputed for their unity in diversity! But unfortunately such stories of amity and brotherhood have become part of an ancient lore! The incidents referred in the poem prove that humanity hasn't totally deserted us! Let us once again sing 'Vandematram', imbibing its true spirit! As ever, a great write!

Let them sing Vande Maataram* Children born to a mother Spanning miles and miles Of beautiful earth....make India make India sounds so encouraging. A thought provoking poem shared really. All have to break up cruelty and love humanity at any place. Really wonderful poem shared. Love wins every heart not the cruelty. Nice sharing....10

How far can India boast of unity in diversity in this contemporary period is a question thought provoking.. If only humanity prevails above all regardless of caste and creed .Patriotism oozing drop.Really enjoyed. Thanks for sharing

Excellent thoughts conveyed poetically. This is what is required by us all Indians today. Complete harmony. Well said Madathil Nair, wish our news channels would promote such poems rather than the din they create and vitiate issues unnecessarily.

Such incidents are eye openers to the dormant goodness that lie cradled in the human heart.

india is still divided by religion. If there is one person who is a fanatic then truly there are 10 more who think that living a spiritual life not torn by religion, is one who is a good human being. this poem has said it all. Why do papers, journalists, Radios. videos, FB always have this negative videos? They need to earn their bread? or perhaps they are showing the right path.?
