Letters 2

Sad he, his wife love dead,

Long and tortuous, slow creep ofcancer,

Disease most foul, by the inch, takenher,

Yet, her spark remained, until thevery last,

Then without a tear, goodbye she said,

Do not weep for me, please live lifefully,

With those words, pass she didonwards,

A friend of hers, from childhood, church,

To him she but a mere acquaintance,

Started coming by, softly, gently,

Helped with the arrangements,

Hosted the wake, great deal more,

Always only in the background,

Never pushy, ever kind,

After a time long, his griefdiminished,

Still a presence with in him, butlessening,

The woman he began to appreciate,

Time, more and more together they,

Till one eve, after conversation long,

For home she did not depart,

The next morning she was gone,

Upon his pillow were letters two,

Labeled one and two, frighten he was,

He slowly opened the first, from she,

She had written long she had lovedhim,

He she wish would be hers always,

Yet read the second letter he must,

The contents were unknown to her,

But honor promised to give to him,

When, in what manner she thoughtsuitable,

If then, his decision he did not wanther,

Understand she would, trouble him not,

If after reading, love her he did,

He could come to her in his own time,

With fear and anxiety, letter twoopened,

From his wife it was, asking forforgiveness,

The woman knew not the contents oftwo,

She had set the path of his new love,

The lady friend, a good and truewoman,

Who had need of a man like he,

As he had need of a woman like her,

So her blessing she did give unto themboth,
