Letters To You Poem by Didier Sixte Kahungu

Letters To You

Did you recived the last I sent?
I have grown since you left
Almost don’t remember your face
When will you come bak?
Mom cries evryday
Should I too?
It has been long cince you left
She ran out of pride
That’s the last thing she traded in for our rent
Are those bad guys you are shooting?
Are these good guys you are protecting?
Gran ma says we shouldn’t quit hopping
She says Vitnam was worse but people still came out alive
Will you too?
What is Vitman?
I hav put my picture here
That’s my puppy
Mom says we should call it Danny
Cos he always finds his way home
I want you to put it on your helmet
Oh is there chokolate there?
What did you have for suppa?
Mom made pasta
She says I cant send it to you
Cos there is only space for Aminution
Whats aminution daddy?
Oh mom is finished writing too
She is wearing that red dress you bought her
She is crying
Can you read her tears too?
Cos your letter is full of them.

To my dad Sergeant Danny Christopher
