Life is a beach

Luck is a word that is one letter away
from the one we use
when our horses lose,
when the fruit machine wastes the gullible,
the jackpot goes astray
luck will give an inch and take a yard
from those who live their life
on the turn of a friendly card.

Luck…
An abstract so fickle;
It will take your fifty dollars
and replace them with a nickel
It finds those who are not seeking it
It avails itself of those who do not need it
It favours the prosperous and eludes the needy
It kicks the down-and-out and makes love to the greedy

Luck be a lady tonight and
have mercy on my folly
Dispense with the guise of the tart with no heart
that plays havoc with my lolly

I need to win
- just once
To know what it feels like
To have some bunce
To have Pound signs for eyes
and Dollars for thighs…
I have a Yen to try on
the Euro for size

O…
to take the economical wasteland
that is my bank balance and plant a forest
- lots of green (know what I mean?)

But for me
Luck is a flag yet unfurled –

If fortune favours the foolish,
then I must be the brightest guy in the world!
Luck is always
Just out of reach
I lie prostrate
on the unforgiving sands of time
Yessiree…
life is a beach.

This is so innovative from the first quirky lines and so well thought through, I love the clever progression of the lines across the page stanza by stanza, and the end line is a new slant on lying on the beach.! I will say without a doublt that this goes with me to my favourites, and has a 10 + + from Fay.

Move over, brother...give e some room on that beach! Wrote a parallel one early on called: 'How the moments come'..... but yours is better! ! ! Tony
