Life’s Storm Poem by Dave Dafes

Entwined in light ‘n’ darkness a day is made.
The advent of Dawn a blanket of darkness.
Of agony, sorrow ‘n’ all evil the night is paved.
Like a bad storm it leaps on us.
Then in your mind you think you’re done.
Like a bandit you it attacks, till all your treasures it robs.
Behind close doors everyone it shut, crippled with fear.
Like a flood the town it sweeps Leavin’ empty street ‘n’ broken hearts.

In our anguish watched we,
As night slowly bowed to the effulgence of light.
Shimmering in bit by bit till night away is chased.
Then the soothing song of sonorous lark,
The cry of infants ‘n’ joy’s gate wide open it throws,
Open to embrace all who wills.
The loneliness, sorrow ‘n’ melancholic feelings of the night,
Away erased like it never existed.
Then the empty streets‘ll beam with activities
‘n’ broken hearts mend with laughter.

The rushing of cars ‘n’ blaring of horns,
The chatting behind the desk,
The clattering of bells in the marketplace;
The chuckle of children in the park
‘n’ picnic of friends at the beach,
The snuggle of lovers at the movies,
The gist of colleagues at the bar,
The wooing ‘n’ dance of dates,
The thought of this bliss each day brings,
Makes you gladly forget the pains of night.

Twelfth hours of pleasures ‘n’ pains also life is made.
Like both sides of a coin it can’t be rent asunder.
For both sides of time we must sail through.
Each time we do a new strength is born.
After the storm always come the rays,
To erode the memories of night.

Faint not poor soul!
Its darkest an instant before dawn.
But of these things think,
The moment of joy the day ushers in,
How it soothe your weary breast
‘n’ your feeble knees it braced.
Brave the storm when it’s fiercest,
For that may be your eleventh hour.
This is always death’s knell.
When the pressures are hardest,
Let the fires of hope burn through the waves of doubt.
For weeping doth endure through the night
but joy in the morning always come.
