Lift Your Head Mama Poem by MEKALH AGAMET

Lift Your Head Mama

Your crispy voice echoed in despair
Agonized sigh filled the air
Your eyes in tears,
The shawl in the hair
The face in grief,
Tells its share.

So in the middle of the night,
Touched by your pain
Moved by your tears,
I left my bed switched on the light,
I stood courageous, full of might
Hugged you close, held you tight
And I whispered,
"Be strong mama, be strong
We are not few, but a throng
Can't you see people
Singing a new song?
The pangs of a woman
Before the baby is born
The python is dying,
Failing his throne
The day is at hand,
We are coming home."
So tonight mama,
Have courage stop wailing
Lift your head quit crying
Your sun in the east is bright and shining.
