Like Moths To The Flame

Like moths to the flame
the tabloids all flock,
and put men to shame
with a shudder of schlock.
Exposed like the mannequins
dressers undress
the sinful shenanigans
are meant to distress,
but please all the readers
who think they’re more decent
than those whose libidos
has proved them impuissant,
and feel more empowered
than moths that have headed
for flames, till devoured
by tales they can’t edit.

Nancy Ramsey writes about the serial killer Aileen Wuornos in “Portraits of a Social Outcast Turned Serial Killer” (The New York Times, December 30,2003) :

Like moths to the flame, tabloids flocked to her case, and in the decade she spent on Florida's death row, Wuornos was alternately called a man-hating lesbian killer, America's first female serial killer or a feminist hero who murdered in self-defense.
