Liquidity Poem by David Thomas

Liquidity

so i suppose
looking back
that it might all be just a
blur.
that love was really like
and like was really not,
yet i still can't help
but feel like my heart was everywhere.
i lost sight of love
for the sake of a good time
and then i lost the good time
for the sake of love lost.
i don't suppose i'll find anything worthy soon
but i've found a person worth fighting for
and now it seems i can't
put up a worthy fight enough...
as if my low brow tactics and
over the table mannerisms aren't good
enough for the likes of her...
i wish i could make it simple
i wish she would see i won't be the same
but past is past
and future is future
so how can we shape what others restrict?
how can i make this clay into a bridge
when the other end simply falls
from the seemingly never ending rain?
