Little Dreamer Poem by Christine Lockehart

Little Dreamer

Little dreamer
So young and naive
For the World is not as you've been taught to percieve
No buttercups, sugar plums, rainbows, or glee
But prejudice, war, and poverty

Don't get me wrong,
Don't misunderstand
You may be small
But the World's in your hands

You must learn from our mistakes
To make the World a better place
For you have potential, knowledge, and heart
For the future dreams you shall chase

Don't live in the present,
Don't dwell in the past,
You must live to the fullest
For the future comes fast

So live, Little Dreamer
May your imagination blossom infinitely
Disregard those who try to strip you of your innocence,
Question you, or discourage you,
And thank those who help you get to where your are
Or where you wish to be
