Little Faith Poem by Matt Johnson

Little Faith

Such a gift of love so pure, so tender yet with such great strength
You move the hearts of all that see you, yet you are unaware of it
The name of Faith your mom placed on you is so perfect in your birth
As you struggle for every breath because you were born early

That God has given you to your parents is not at all in question
Though I am your grandpa, I think God has given you to me too
I rejoiced with tears as I heard your voice from the hallway in the hospital
It was unknown then that you would have to struggle for each breath

My eyes fill with tears when I remember your mom's loving concern
As we prayed first of all that the God that gave you let us keep you
How helpless we all felt that your mom can't hold you while in intensive care
How thankful that you kept breathing with all the wires and tubes attached

I hated that I had to leave and travel away because of work demands
I assured my daughter that the God that gave you to us would let us keep you
You have caused me to pray almost nonstop that I did not lie to my daughter
So great is your strength that you have changed me, but you are unaware of it

Today your grandma told me on the phone that they removed the tubes
That your mom gets to hold you now and nurse you with tears of joy
So I thank the God that blessed us all that you have come to stay
I was unaware that Faith so tiny could be so strong and enduring
