Little Girls Poem by Lilly Wells

Little Girls

Little girls are playing in the field
scaring the rabbits
the girls laugh joyfully
as they skitter away

They pick flowers
and intertwine them in one another's
hair
ones blond
the other brunette mixed with red

The little girls
get into mischief
which gets them in trouble
but to them it's worth it
except when caught

They are filled with
the innocence of youth
not yet touched by
Earth's cruel hand

They giggle and laugh
all the time
they smile at each other
as they lay among the roses
drifting to sleep

Now their older
they have felt Earth's coldness
but once together
it all melts away
they become young once more

The little girls are older
this is true
but are young whenever,
their together
lost in their memories of things past

One of those little girls
is me
the other
my sister,
my best friend
