I loved the repetition of Long Ago, as is the title, because in reality the past seems better than the present. I think we all reminisce about the good ole days, and, that being, it's commonly important for us to express our feeling about the past. I also loved the ending. when love was a word I didn't know. It's extremely powerful for me, and many have had those relationships that seemed to be nothing special, but when it was over we seem to want to go back to those good ole days.

It is really a continuing expression of love, that make me hear the inside beat, love the lines: When four friends
    I only knew
Me myself I and you, ........more then a very good one.

Sometimes acting on emotion (even when it's love) is selfish and can be detrimental. You've captured that well. The writer seems wise enough to know seperation for the better. Well done.

Dark poem, with hints of melancholy and despair...though one can still see notes of optimism in it, because if there is Love, there is Hope too.

Yes, indeed, the last 2 lines make the poem very poignant and touching...
