Looking Out Of Yesterday's Windows Poem by Thomas Noel Smith

Looking Out Of Yesterday's Windows

I have seen the hope in your eyes
And I dare not speak in somber tones
Of how joy and pain
Invade even the purest hearts.

I have found myself
Looking through yesterday's windows
For friends I once knew…
Friends that walked the dusty paths
To other towns.

I knew your voice,
I remember your face,
And my heart lives in a reverie
Of days gone by.

I have seen the look in your eyes
And how could I say
That the heart lives
In its own solitude?

The bygone days of my life speak to me,
And as your eyes turn away
I will remember…
And in this moment of solitude,
I must remain
With the yearning I will find
Looking out of yesterday's windows.
