Losing Grandpa Poem by Erika Wingo

Losing Grandpa

Even in the pain of
Here and now,
We must open our heart's
In acceptance
Knowing that out of all
Heartache
Comes life's most valuable
Lessons
To live and to love
Is to suffer the loss
Since all good things
It seems,
Come with a cost

We hold each other close
And become still
Wondering how we will
Ever fill
The time and space
That echoes loudly
with the loss of you
In these sacred moments
Of the in between
The memories become
Something most Holy

Aware that we are within
The flow of God's Divinity
How sweet is the surrender
Of all grief and uncertainty

I saw in my Grandfather
glimpses of
My Father, my uncles,
My brother, myself
A Grandparent's love
Can enrich
and sustain
Through all things in life
And even in death
Will always remain
