Somewhere
at home, stuck in
a drawer or a book
or somewhere else
are the poems
I've lost.

Poems written years ago,
some funny, some serious.
All of them calling to me now
saying, come find me.

Titles of some I recall.
'Only Yesterday' is the one
I miss the most.

My Halloween poem,
'Sonnet- -With Blood on it'
and the Thanksgiving one- -
title forgotten, but several
lines remembered.

There were three or four
or maybe more concerning
the pursuit of venison
and one or two or quite
a few just as good
as Tennyson.

(Only my not-so-humble opinion...)

There was 'Gordon Francis Thompson',
an acrostic written
for the funeral
of my wife's grandfather.

Handwritten, pen and ink.
No computer to store and save;
not even a typewriter
to make a carbon copy.

Who kept it after the funeral
or was it kept at all
or simply tossed
and is now forever lost?

One of my best titles
was on a poem
written to point out a mistake
in the poetry class textbook.

They defined the word 'iamb'
and then used an example
that wasn't.
My title: 'Iamb Confused'.

Odds are
I will never
see any of these, my
lost poems again,
so must write
new ones.

Sorry, the actual title of the poem was IAMB DUMBFOUNDED instead of IAMB CONFUSED. It was so long ago that I wrote it (1973) that I forgot the actual title.

I didn't find out the Possibility of writing poems until age 83.. who knew? They say everybody doesn't find it this easy. Tough. I do excellent caricatures and am too lazy to get my comic strip published. Pretty ladies are constantly buying me drinks at the casino and I can only hold two brandies so am then in danger of losing at roulette.(No, I don't think management puts them up to it.) Some pretty lousy rhymes there by the way.
