Love Poem by Cory Huennekens

Love

My tears flow like the rivers
The Euphrates of blood which have stained the ground
My hearts is the mothers, breaking at the loss of her son
I wail like the rockets flown over head
Leaving trails of bodies dead
My worries and anxieties
As numerous as the desert sands
Not for my future or that of the world
But for the suffering of my fellow man
Love one another as you love yourself
Yet we have not loved our neighbor
We have not loved ourselves

I weep with the mother and the father
Cry with the sister and brother
I morn with the wife and child
The Father’s heart breaks
My heart breaks

Let us love each other, for this is the highest way
Compassion for each other, for this is the right way
Sacrifice for each other, for it is the only way.
