Love is just a four letter word
It has no physicality, it cannot be heard
Its meaning cannot even be defined
But it is an emotion shared by all human kind

It is a feeling most often sort
A reason why great battles are fought
An emotion so strong it can bind people by law
So powerful it can make you feel raw

If two people feel it for each other
Like a bond between child and mother
Then great safety and comfort it does bring
A feeling of content different to everything

But for me it this is still a mystery
A door for which I cannot find a key
I dream of sharing it with someone dear
But its impossibility is my greatest fear

I so want to be loved and love another
Feelings that make you want them and no other
I was so desperate to find this
But it seems only frogs did I kiss

I thought to connect I had to give my body away
Otherwise they would not stay
But I did not feel safe or secure
And so intimacy was something I just endured

But despite this no one has ever felt love for me
And now from their embrace I want to flee
Too scared from past times, and the subsequent pain
I have no want to try and find a partner again

Love is a word that now makes me sad
For it describes something I haven't had
And I fear it cannot happen
For I am too afraid to love again
