Love Is Like Mashed Potatoes Poem by Jennifer Colyne Hall

Love Is Like Mashed Potatoes

Love is like mashed potatoes

But not those flakes

The good stuff

Real love,

Real potatoes

Take your time

Choose your potatoes carefully

Gently wash them,

Looking at each one

Washing off the dirt

From where your love was before

And healing,

By cutting away the bruising

Peel away the layers

To expose the heart of your potatoes

Cut into squares,

To help to cook better

Now you've got him

Put the lid on

So you don't loose it

By overheating

- turn it down

This stuff gonna take a while

If you want it done right

Don't ever walk away-

They might burn,

Then they'll be ru'ing

No good for anybody

With loving care,

Move to a large enough space

For all your little potatoes

Mash together,

Now instead of single potatoes

You have a large heap

Add some delicious milk mama

So you always keep your cool

Add a couple large tablespoons of creamy butter,

This will keep your love smooth

A dash of salt

And a sprinkle of garlic to add flavor to spice it up

Almost there

Now get your sturdy beater and put a spin on things

Now display on a pretty handmade doily-

Ding the bell

Get out of the way,

And watch him run

To your love (potatoes)
