Love (Not What Your Heart Desires) Poem by U Win Kyi

Love (Not What Your Heart Desires)

My girlfriend is living far away,
I am thinking of her everyday,
Meeting her daily is no way.
I ask God to grant me wings to fly,
because I have no money for air ticket I need to buy.
To my God all I do is earnest pray,
to have mercy on me night and day.

One night, a fluffy growth appears on my shoulder,
which grows bigger and bigger.
I couldn't be happier.
I am now becoming a bird, no more human.
I can fly to my girlfriend every now and then.
In the air, I will be floating and flying,
saying ' I love you ' to my darling.
I find my voice coming out as chirp, chirp, chirp,
not like the one I usually said.
I am totally amazed,
I am talking the bird language!

Then one day, I feel chills and rigor,
body temperature shooting up as a fever,
short of breath, like a fish out of water.
I am diagnosed as a bird flu H5N1.
Flying like a bird is no more fun.
I will surely be done.
Oh! my God, spare me from this deadly disease,
Please take back the wings as I plead.
HE appears and says ' My son, you are very foolish.'
I deplore and weep,
as HE admonishes.
' You have e-mail, cell-phone, google and skyppe,
and yet ask ME what you like,
never taking into account of feasibility,
though you have the human ability.
Ask the things which are needed in dire,
NOT WHAT YOUR HEART DESIRES,
I will give you the best,
which will not clash with your interest.
I make you living apart,
as a test of true love,
which can always wait,
even with passing of time, it never fade.'
Oh, my LORD, give me another chance to live,
cos I have many things unfinished.
HE commands the word ' dropp ',
and the wings drop,
without using an axe to chop.
Then in a lightening flash and in a sound of thunder,
into heaven, He disappears.

Then I hear the hitting of the door....bang, bang, bang,
I am startled and awakened,
realizing the sun shines on my face through the window left open,
cos last night I was so drunken.
I find myself trembling in scare,
as if death was closing very near,
but it was just a nightmare.
