Love Of Lies Poem by Tim Bovee

Love Of Lies

I could not look you in the eyes
Through twenty years of smiles and tears.
We lived a love of lies.

Walking silent side by side under seasonal skies
We choked and stumbled, mute and blind. Nowhere
Could I look you in the eyes.

Why does she hate me? Every day my sly
Thoughts tremble, shaken by silent fears.
We lived a love of lies.

Why does he hate me? Unseen you fly,
Your face a mask of painful panic etched by acid tears.
I could not look you in the eyes.

A job, a house, two cars, a son, a cat, a dog, a nice
Suburban collection of respectable marital cares.
We lived a love of lies.

We saw each other, you and I, bathed in the light of black sighs.
The word unspoken, the glance ungiven---sears.
I could not look you in the eyes.
We lived a love of lies.
