Love Remains Poem by terri kay

Love Remains

Even though your absence
has plunged into my chest
and tore my still-beating heart
out from my insides
only to then light a fire
while I weep at the ashes
your love remains

When my scalding, salty tears
stream down my cheeks
causing my body to shake
it's numb shoulders and
newly vacant rib cage
your love remains

When the absence of hope
turns to fear and then
anesthetizes me
feeling adrenaline pin-pricks
on the ends of my finger tips
craving the numbness, no craving
the pain
your love remains.

When I'm hoarse from screaming
so loud, for so long
desperately begging you to come back
to stay
to take me with you
to tell me why you left me
your love remains

And these nights, when my dreams
are so vivid of you
while not a main character
you're there, walking by
in a cafe, just outside on the verandah
and I'm sick with confusion
upon waking
hoping you're still near to me
In a moment of quiet,
that is tempered with clarity.

I know your body is gone.
but your love remains.
