Love's Ledge (In Progress) Poem by Allistair Solomon

Love's Ledge (In Progress)

Rating: 5.0

Born in a time of misery
when dark gods ruled all from land to sky
the prophets screamed in horror
When he made his fateful first cry

On pain he was suckered
death became his life
torture was his father
and his mother's name was strife

Yet the future is uncertain
His destiny even the fates didn't know
From this warrior forged of hatred,
a lover great did grow

His power slaughtered millions
His might the light couldn't quell
He pillaged and he conquered
But when he spied her, he fell

A simple girl from parts unknown
a heart so bright and pure
from her very essence
untainted light did pour

Her soul was so white
his the darkest black
It sparked a love in him so hot
his frost encased heart did crack

His world needed her beauty
it screamed for her charm
Just being in her presence
his malice disarmed

Her touch did soothe the savage beast
Her kiss had quenched his fire
Her song was golden at the least
Her love his one desire

On Beauty's grace his heart did feast
but that time did soon expire
She showed no mercy for the beast
whose love she set on fire

No pity for him in the least
She scoffed at his desire
on his hope the crows did feast
but his love did not expire

The beast now waits until the day
when beauty will set his heart free
He whispers to himself that it's okay
and surely she soon must see

that as far away as she may stray
and wherever she comes to be
She won't be happy 'til the day
she finds her way back home to he

Fate conspired to fight against him
It tried to keep them apart
his heart was blind and could not see
That this was just the start

He was always searching for an answer
to the question that's unknown
his problems just got greater
when he was out there all alone

fate thought that it was winning
but it just did not know
that the fight was just beginning
and its chance of succeeding was low

He thought to make shelter
A place to keep his soul
but fate had a different idea
and trapped him in his hole

Humans, they build fortresses
to keep others held out
His fortress turned out prison
built of pain and doubt

In his cell it was barren
With no one to call his own
His fate should be to sit here
so cold and all alone

for the pain he brought to others
in the name of all that's dark
He horrered at the monster he was
consciousness was loves greatest mark

Of better times he did fantasize
times filled with hope and grace
times when he could hold his dear
and gaze into her face

Alas! His hope is was all for naught
No enjoyment could he find
Destiny had him stranded
alone in his own mind

So he made the world a promise
To help bring the darkness to an end
he knew that he must destroy himself
in repentance for all the wrongs he could not mend

He called to the gods to help him
they owed him for all his awful deeds
He begged them to show the world compassion
just help him in his time of need

The Gods showed him no sympathy
So he escaped all on his own
and fled into the darkness
that had once been his only home Home

His courage it did falter
So he said quietly to ground
No one could know that this mantra
Would make the Gods fury sound

'Come what may, come what might
I'll stall the darkness if you send the light
This world could be Heaven, but I made it Hell
Take your freedom, I'll keep my jail
I'm tired of the sorrow, I must now turn the tide
Where are the Gods that should be by my side?
I feel so empty, I helped cause this mess
I believe a change might be for the best
But change can be hard, and I fear the new
Challenging my makers is all i can do.'

He walked for an eternity
letting his feet find their own road
While the petty Gods did plot the fall
of the hero that the prophets foretold

His feet they did not betray him
They sped him on his way
They took him to the edge of the world
Where he could cast his life away

But our story hasn't ended
I'm afraid it's just begun
For what would it be to have the night
and yet leave out the sun?

On a ledge the man is standing
The sharp wind starts to blow
His feet have started slipping
It's so cold there down below

He only asked one question
and she left him in suspense
Now He is demanding
an answer that makes sense

She said that she loved him
and before he takes that step
He hesitates and looks for her
His eyes begging for help

His Spirit has been butchered
The life he lead a mess
It's harmony was fractured
Doesn't he deserve a rest?

Out of the distance darkness
he sees a familiar glow
he feels something beat within his chest
For her light he would always know

He sees her tears start flowing
but the wind steals all her words
Destiny wants to punish him
It's no less than he deserves

He gave this life the best He had
and stll it wanted more
It ripped his heart and seared his soul
It left him bruised and sore

He had never given mercy,
and has always fought the light.
But does that really matter
Since day gives way to the night?

'Why should I keep on going? '
He yells above the wind,
'You tell me that you love me,
but will you be there till the end? '

The ground begins to crumble
as He slowly edges away
Waiting for the answer
that will decide His fate this day

The Gods show him no pity
The wind it does not slack
He sees the only way to win
will be to go aggro and attack

The Wind is now his enemy
His objective is true love
He turns around not knowing
he just avoided it's first shove

The Wind has grown quite angry
it missed it's chance to win
He trudges through its fury
Determined to bring its end

He may not find his answer
May yet still die this day
but one thing he knows for sure
This is the only way

He walks into her waiting arms
wipes the cold tears from her eyes
Shelters her body with his cloak
And looks into the skies

What he sees there is frighting
The Gods dislike being denied
But for now they are defeated
brought down by their own pride

They never should have gambled
against a love so true
Now they swear black revenge
against our heroes two

Yet their wishes have no power
They're just curses from above
For even they can be thwarted
by the power of true love

The words that he spoke to her
made the wind halt in it's tracks
The sweetness of his emotion
halted all attacks

'I thinks the stars would find it grand,
and the moon would hold it dear,
if you would say you'll take my hand
and forever hold me near.'

Her answers give him more questions
the battle still grinds on
conclusions never happen
His sanity is almost gone

If that's the price that's asked of him
for him to live in peace
then it is freely given
and he'll not miss it in the least

He's always known the answer
it was so hard to face
He kept his secrets hidden
to avoid his true disgrace

He sees himself too clearly
still a monster beneath the mask
Fated to be hated
Ending the darkness his only task

He has almost nothing left to offer
has done nothing good show
His darkness has been bidden
too hide down far below

He has to watch it closely
to ensure it doesn't rise
Is it that he's destined
for a slow and lonesome demise?

Sweet symphony of sorrow
Soothing sound of strife
Take the threads of tomorrow
and weave love into his life

He holds her In his arms so strong
puts his finger to her lips
He stare deeply into her hazel eyes
then softly grabs her hips

It's bitter sweet
on ones last kiss
Two souls do meet
one final twist

He pulls away from her embrace
A lone tear falls down his cheek
knowing he should say good-bye
but he cant bring himself to speak

The wind is no longer his enemy
It now helps him on his quest
gives him wings so he can fly
and wishes him the best

Now he must leave his love behind
not knowing if he'll return alive
Takes one last look at her sweet face
and off the ledge he dives

She gives a cry and runs to the edge
Thinking he plummeted to his doom
not knowing of the winds great gift
that saved him from a tomb

His wings snap out with a resounding CRACK!
as the wind comes to his aid
lifting him into the sky
all debts are now repaid

He seeks to wake the sleeping gods
which once the darkness did greatly fear
He knows that he must wake the light
He just hopes that the will hear

He searches and he searches
For the place the gods do sleep
He wonders how they rest so sound
Why do they sleep so deep?
