Love Takes Two Poem by Biff McGuire

Love Takes Two

It’s hard to coast uphill
I’ve tried it one too many times
It leaves a costly bill
Responsibility’s sometimes mine

To carry on with love forever
Takes some input from both sides
Contribution from one (never)
Works, and leads to only lies

A kiss from her, a kiss returned
An 'I love you' said now and then
A real life “bliss” is only earned
Love comes to you from love you send

When it works, it’s really good
When all is given, all comes back
Promises not kept (as should)
Will tip the scale if one side lacks

So in the end, two give-two get
Loves forever, both sides win
But expectations never met
Just lead to failure once again
