Lucky Toad Poem by Theresa Ann Moore

Lucky Toad

Each week when I mow
there is a reoccurrence
that happens without fail...
A toad makes an appearance

From the blades of grass
there is a frenzied leap...
like an effervescent hop
desiring its life to keep

The engine roars...
sliced blades of grass
are dispersed and lie prone
The toad is missed on this pass

Making another round…
seeing frantic leaps again
stopping directly in my path...
from disaster I must refrain

With a frozen stare
and a cold nervous twitch
the toad is gently procured
and placed in a safer niche

To see another day
and bask in the warm sun
To snag an insect snack…
go play and have some fun
