Lunch Poem by George Hunter

Lunch

I was wondering just what
...to have for lunch
When I remembered that
...I had a bunch

Of veggies languishing
... in the old ice box
Thought I’d boil them up
...with some old sweat sox.

Just kidding there
...I was outta time
Trying to think of something
...Clever to rhyme.

Seriously, here’s
...just what I got
Cut them all up
...Put them in the pot.

Added some bacon
...and some fish.
I always like a bit
...of meat in my dish.

Some onions, celery
...and carrots too
Mixed them all up
...Just like a stew.

Then I added
...some sun-dried tomato
And started the boil
...with some chopped up potato.

Simmered it a while
...then added some milk
It turned out
...just as smooth as silk.

My cooking, I’ll say
...is the very best.
It has withstood
...my every test.

Buttered some crackers
...and I’ll say the least
It turned out to be
...a wonderful feast.
