Ma'ami Poem by Tosin Abegunde

Ma'ami

Who despite bereavements, strive
When for offspring, quest to have
And elation of errands envisaged?
Ma'ami!

From pillar to post manouvered
Spent; bought; all for investment
Th't would hereafter make waves?
Ma'ami!

Some blamed her futility on past,
The syringe captains say 'nature'
The four eyed men say 'ancestral'?
Oh ma'ami!

Year after years dream comes true
Then joy envelopes the household
On the arrival of new born king?
Ma'ami!

Compliment upon compliments
Friends and foes stealthly offered
On Christenin' of spear th't shakes?
Ma'ami!

I remember the sleepless times
When you lull the arobo to sleep
To quench the buzzling silence,
Ma'ami!

Even when four legged I explored
Scattering basin, bowls and plates
All for puerile wisdom to seek
Ma'ami!

Rain and shine, she's there for me
Strapping me at the back tightly
Then I sleep like broken bottle?
Ma'ami!

Now that I've grown to the apex
I plead to God long life to grant th'
Mary of our gen'ration in salubrity,
Ma'ami!
