Mad Poem by karissa bristow

Mad

I walk down this solitary road,
footsteps following attentively behind me,
I cautiously turn around, nobody,
But I can feel you there, watching, waiting.
I’m surrounded by trees, ready to reach out and grab me,
their branches so intimidating and strong,
I feel as if they are stalking me.

This road in which I walk upon,
Is damp, long and dark,
The only light shines down from the moonlit sky
shadows hanging over me,
I can’t even trust my own shadow,
Its following me, it won’t leave.

The sound of silence, nothing can be heard,
I’m beginning to be terrorized by my thoughts,
nasty, horrible thoughts, I’m filled with dread,
as I quicken my pace, jogging, running,
until I come to a halt, to my horror,
I’m running in circles

Before I know it, im awake,
In the same place, on the same bed,
Strapped and lightly sedated,
The cushioned walls surround me,
It was all just a dream,
I’m safe now, I’m safe now
