Madman On The 10 Poem by Juan Olivarez

Madman On The 10

Two mountains loom in the distance
Getting closer by the minute
Huge things, tops covered in fresh fallen snow.

The old Lesley Nielson line from Police Squad
Races into my unsuspecting mind.
'Everything reminded me of her.'

Hysterical laughter bursts from my throat
I grip the steering wheel tighter.
Then ever so casually, I glance around the car
Nobody heard.

That makes the laughter return in force again
Nobody, but nobody heard my outburst.
Times like this I doubt my sanity.

The mere thought that someone could hear me
And I knowing perfectly well That I am all alone
In the car. Looney like a toon.

Signs up ahead, divided highway
Palm Springs on the right
LA on the left
The breasts tower over me.

The laughter again
So hard this time tears run down my cheeks
Get a hold of yourself old man.

Never heard anyone call San Gorgonio
And San Jacinto a pair of breasts
Oh my God, I gotta pee.
