Madness Coming Down Poem by Michelle Clements

Madness Coming Down

She's feeling trapped and afraid, she's sure that everyone spy's
She knows we're all out to get her so she walks with downcast eyes
Did it happen quickly one day? Did her mind just suddenly explode?
Or did it happen ever so slightly that nothing really ever showed.
Now she cowers on the sidewalk cause in her mind monsters are real
And we all just watch with pity, we're not sure how we should deal
Should we give her some food? should we give a dollar? Or maybe two?
Would you want to be treated like that, if "that poor thing" was you?
We wonder how she ended up there and then we turn away, in shame
‘cause deep down in our hearts we know we're all part of the blame
Meanwhile she's in the doorway, and she's so afraid to come out
Because the shadows, will protect her, she knows this without doubt
Who knows what it feels like and who can wrap their heads around?
What happens to a broken mind when the madness comes down?
