Mama Africa's Cry Poem by Kubiat Bassey

Mama Africa's Cry

I hear wailing in the streets
Wailing from the deepest pits
Tears flooding ebony feet
'Woe, woe, woe to them all
Woe to them who suckled
Upon my sagging breasts
Who found in my arms rest'
She sobs, lamenting again
'They deprive their brothers gain
Offer them wages of pain
Left wide the gates
For invading pirates
Who have looted
And carted away our yields...'
Embittered she says no more
Her soul feeling sore
She weeps for her children
Hoping they work out their salvation
