Many Nights Poem by Tina Dang

Many Nights

Many nights, I stood up on the balcony and looked up at the beautiful stars trying to reach for one from afar
But I couldn’t grasp it, so I would wish upon a shooting star, it must have worked because now here you are
Many nights, I have yearned for someone to call my own, someone to share my love and life with, and someone to hold and embrace
Finally the day has come, my wait seems to be over, and I have laid my eyes on a special person with such an angelic face
Many nights, my heart races and beats faster as she enters into the room, I try to regain my composure but it seems impossible
I must make my best impression, this is my fate that I hold in my hands if it slips there’s no one to blame because I am responsible.
When night leaves me for I am ever so frighten not knowing what to wish upon anymore
Oh night please come! So I may wish upon another star for her, my love to stay, because she’s been the one I’ve longed for
Suddenly my eyes become weary and start fluttering and slowly shuts, I lay to rest, yet my mind wanders and focuses only on her
I awake and it’s morning again, but this time it’s different I turn to my side and there she lays I have fallen deeply in love never have I felt so sure.
As silly as it sounds to wish upon a star; however I believe that many do wish upon one star that they’ve picked out
My many nights have become reality she is now the only star that I gaze at, she’s the brightest star that shines in my life…..the one I can’t live without.
