Marie Poem by Liam ó Comáin

Marie

'Daddy,
I love you very much':
This expression
Of a special girl
Confirms that
'God is love'.
For only God
Could inspire
Such a statement
In the devastation
Of a 'Remembrance Sunday'.

They will echo down
The future aeons
Of our country,
A signpost to
Reconciliation and peace.
A call to love,
A call to what is best
In our fallen nature,
A call to repentance
And forgiveness.

Yes, Marie,
Your departure
Is not in vain
For the Spirit
Which inspired you
Will melt the hearts of
Those who advocate
The inhumanity of violence.
