Mars Poem by Andrus Cassian

Mars

Is there life on Mars
No
Do I hear no
Scientists, scientists
please don't tell me it's all a story
Is there life on Mars
if there isn't
send me there, away from the Sun, with the stars in my hands
so the atmospheric wind can perform an operation on my cheek
while I scream back to planet Earth
'STAY AWAY FROM ME! ! ! '
I hate to be alone but being by myself is all I've known
solid irony
It's funny because in old photo albums
it predicted I to be more than this
Sadistic how life unravels a pre-envisioned canvas
into a work of art disheveled like no one has seen before
A fading something vanishing like stardust
somewhere far beneath the crust
From this universe, I'm sorry
but I just need some space
Is there life on Mars
if there is, I wonder how far
in the distance, a shooting star
so I place a wish upon my heart
a wish that can't be missed
a wish that can't be fixed
