Mary Jane (Part I) Poem by Tatyana 'Churlish Cherub' Almeida

Mary Jane (Part I)

For you whom I once loved...

I’m so in love with you but
You’re in love with Mary Jane
It’s so pathetic; it’s getting to your brain
Makes you a puppet, a creature inane
It makes me mad, drives me insane
Tragic, regrettable, like Kurt Cobain

I’m so in love with you but
You’re in love with Mary Jane
Why can’t you see that she’s a sadist witch?
She’s no good, a con artist with
A fool’s gold sales pitch
Drains the life out of you like a leech
Ought to be tortured, dead, buried in a ditch

I’m so in love with you but
You’re in love with Mary Jane
I try to save you, but all in vain
It’s a perpetual flood, blood rain
She brings you nothing but pain
But she, not I, is who you hold dear
Pull near, tells you what you wanna hear

I’m so in love with you but
You’re in love with Mary Jane
I wish that embrace was mine
That those words were mine
To say to you til’ the end of time

(Mary Jane is not a person. Mary Jane refers to marijuana)
