Masks Poem by Juvela Obi

Masks

You think you know me
You’re dead wrong
You only know my masks

Whatever I do
Whatever I say
Is a lie

I’m not okay
But I get by
Day to day

A hundred masks I wear
A hundred faces you see
But you never see me

I work hard to hide
What I feel
What I think

You wouldn’t understand
So I don’t let you see
The pain I have inside of me

I am fine, this is true
But fine is different
For me than for you

A thousand masks I wear
A thousand faces you see
But you never see me

So many masks, I’ve lost myself
The face behind them is gone
Who am I today?

Help me find who I am
It’s almost too late
I don’t know the real me

Too many masks I wear
Too many parts I play
I don’t even know when I’m acting
