Masks Poem by Rachel L. Z.

Masks

My heart's still beating, why isn't yours?
Our past is comprised of the slamming of doors
I can't explain why something perfect hurts so bad.

I still care, why don't you?
I've tried to be strong but it's no use
I can't explain why something perfect hurts so bad.

Dead men wear no masks, but I don't want to wait that long.
So many questions to ask, but they'll all come out wrong.

I told the truth, now you lie
I cannot trust the look in your eyes
I can't explain why something perfect hurts so bad.

You once made laugh, now I cry
You left without ever saying good-bye
I can't explain why something perfect hurts so bad.

Dead men wear no masks, but I don't want to wait that long.
So many questions to ask, but they'll all come out wrong.
Dead mean wear no masks, but I want to know right now.
We're wondering what comes next, but neither of us know how.

I am here, while you're gone
The words fall flat like an unfinished song
I can't explain why something perfect hurts so bad.

I miss you, you're happy as a clam,
But you once loved me the way that I am
I can't explain why something perfect hurts so bad.

I am hurting, but you're fine
I don't know what to do with this heart of mine
I can't explain why something perfect hurts so bad.

Dead men wear no masks, but I don't want to wait that long.
So many questions to ask, but they'll all come out wrong.
Dead men wear no masks, but I want to know right now.
We're wondering what comes next, but neither of us know how.

I guess all along a part of me knew
It was foolish of me to try and love you
I can't explain why something perfect hurts so bad.
