Matriculation Poem by Olatunde Temitayo

Matriculation

Just like a dream
When my legs arrived this citadel
Inside a hall my hands found itself
Entertained with simple hard questions
Whom my hands replied in grunting hours
When men on spectacles soldiered my papers
It was like a dream
When what i sowed i reaped
Reaped in good percentages
Neither 100% nor 90% i got
But above 50% i had
It was like a dream
When i bathed in a pool of eagerness
When my kneels kissed the floor
When my eyes were shut
And my mouth chewed words
Pleading to i am
To admit me to this citadel
It was like a dream
When i welcomed a letter
A letter which its words smile
A letter of admission to this varsity
A varsity where words are traded
A varsity where beings are cultured
A varsity where inhumans become human
A varsity where pens battle papers
Just like a dream
When my feet joined feets in this varsity
But stranger i was called
Through oath i took not
But it came to pass
This smiling day
A day full of amazing seconds
Seconds that gave birth to joyful minutes
Minutes that resulted to happy hours
When with my fellows we took oath
When with our lips we promised
To shun animalistic attitude
Because bonifide students we are now
Happy matriculation
