Maybe In The Morning Poem by Raymond J Wright

Maybe In The Morning

There I was
Christmastime, four years back
Heading into the Superette
Down on Main Street
I can still feel
The sting of sleet on my face,
Your words ringing in my ears
Inside: smiling faces, Holiday cheer
Jingle Bell Rock and Silent night
Much too much to do...
Mustn’t let you slow me down
Flour, butter, sugar, molasses
There’s dinner with Steve and Jean tomorrow,
Have to bake tonight
I have no time for crying,
No time to wonder why
Maybe in the morning I’ll think about goodbye

Excellent poem, Raymond - I love how you've left it to your readers to wonder the 'why and what happened'... it's poignant, full of emotion, and real. Very well done. Love, CJ
